We feel we are not good enough. But that’s rubbish. Overcome your fear of inadequacy.
You’re standing at the free throw line, it’s ten seconds to destiny. You have the shot. You and only you. Can you make it? Will you take it? Will you be the hero of the day?
Or, you get the shot after the siren, the penalty kick, the microphone’s waiting, or you just pushed publish and you’re waiting for the stat’s; or you do any one of a million other things that could bring your life meaning. And in that second, you know if you will achieve your destiny, take the glory, be the winner, choose between the Rolls or the Ferrari, wear the fancy watch, get the girl, win the game, or whatever your great thing is.
And the ball goes up, it seconds to midnight, you’re holding your breath. And you already know.
The fear of insadeqaucy stops you from making the shot
The whole thing is a dream.
Cause if you were at that point you’d already be the hero, the winner, the big dog, the cheese. But you’re not. And you know why. You’re scared.
That’s the thing that’s stopping you, stopping me, stopping us.
The fear of inadequacy
“Smith writes that the first thing people fear is not being skilled enough.”
10 Biggest Fears Holding You Back
That’s what stops us from going for our greatness, living the life we want and having it all.
We fear we are not good enough.
Like me. I’m not going all in, being totally honest, ranting with passion, because I’m not convinced I’m a great writer. (Well that’s changing – I’m just going for it right now.)
You’re not trying out for that acting gig, that promotion, that hot date, that whatever the hell you want, not because it is hard. No, stuff that, we can do hard in a heart-beat. You can do hard all day long. And most of us do – suppressing our feelings to get through the daily grind – that’s hard.
Hell no, we don’t fear the hard – we fear the failure – we fear rejection – we fear big noting ourselves to go down in flames and the laughter and humiliation.
That’s what stops you from getting your greatness.
That is why I’m not a best-selling author, going viral, with fans knocking down the door. Cause I’m afraid to write it fast, furious, passionate and true. (Well here I am trying to change that right now.)
The cure
“When you understand what your important role is in carrying out your pursuits … you will begin to see what you need to do when first stepping out to tackle your fear of inadequacy.”
“The Bravest You: 5 Steps to Fight Your Biggest Fears, Find Your Passion and Unlock Your Extraordinary Life,” comes out May 30.
So this dude Smith says I need to understand the important role.
Simple – I want it all. I want the recognition and the joy of knowing I have skill. And I want the toys and the amazing financially free dream of travelling like a conquering hero all over the globe. Also, I want to know money’s no issue and I want to give and make the lives of poor children better.
That’s what makes it important to me.
I knew that already.
But that’s not what is going to help me overcome the fear of inadequacy.
In fact, the more things I want, the more I fear I don’t deserve them.
Overcome the Fear of Inadequacy
But the more I’ve asked myself, ‘what makes it important’, the more I know none of that is the truly important thing.
What’s the truly important thing – it’s service – why the hell do others care about me being awesome.
And now I’ve found it. I write like an impassioned maniac, not to get the high off my own genius, and it’s certainly not making the money, cause I haven’t yet, but when I write in this state, I’m pushing the worlds out cause I want to light you up.
I want you to trip from one word to the next, feeling excited, getting pumped about life, getting passionate and most of all getting empowered to overcome the fear and start to take your own shots in life.
That’s what’s important – helping you get over the fear.
Defeating my fear of inadequacy
I am a writer. I do it every day. Sometimes I’m great and sometimes I’m crap. But even if I stuff up monumentally, I know you wont care. I can still be an awesome writer and I can take every shot and be on my way to superstardom. I can do that cause I know I’m here to serve.
I go for it because I know I’m doing my best for my tribe.
Who is my tribe? People like me looking to take their lives to the next level. Those of you studying to learn the keys to success. People investing in themselves and working for the future. I write to help amateur investors to stay in the game. I write to inspire people to find their voice. I write to find beauty in my poetry. And I’m starting to write to help kill the fear.
So, here I am taking the shot, writing loud and not feeling any fear of inadequacy.
I want us to overcome the fear.
I want us to claim our destiny.
So, decide what you want and work out why it’s important.
And just go for it!
Do the hard work – God knows you can do it.
Find that power and fuel of passion that makes you want to give blood, sweat and tears; the juice that makes you give up the beers. Find that voice inside that says, I am doing something absolutely worthwhile and I’m going to give it my all. I will not be stopped. I may sound like a raving lunatic, but if one person gets this far, I know I’m lighting them up.
And I can keep learning from here.
How do I serve my tribe?
How do I help my people find their passion, their voice and their power?
How do I help you destroy that fear inside that says you are not enough?
Well I found a way.
I know I can write. I know I can be great. But I need to be fuelled by that passion that knows my readers will absolutely love this article, they absolutely need this piece of writing, and they will absolutely feel pumped!
So forget the limitations!
You have greatness inside.
Now let me hear you roar!!!
