Turn your desires into success by controlling your thoughts and taking the right action for you.
Do you want success?
Well Napoleon Hill spent his whole life studying success.
He learned the secret.
He learnt the great lessons of success supplied by greats like industrial titan Andrew Carnegie and inspired inventor Thomas A. Edison.
To learn more about how to turn your desires into success, read on.
Turn Desire into Success
Do you have a hidden dream of success? A deep down desire to do something great?
I have the sneaking suspicion that we are all born with some sense of greatness within us. However, somewhere along the line we decide, or others tell us, that we need to give up those ideas of greatness and just settle for the everyday average.
And to me that seems to be the great difference between those that have and those that don’t. The haves, the ones that get great success, are the ones that follow their inner greatness. They don’t question it and they keep going until they get it. The rest, well we just go along doing the same old thing until we find some level of satisfaction and we settle. Or we get so fed up that we go looking to rekindle that fire within that yearns for greatness.
This is what happened to me.
I used to have wild, great dreams when I was younger, but somewhere along the line I got the feeling that I was just boring and average. And then I tried to fit in and do the same as others. And it turned out I wasn’t so good at what they were good at. So it became, “I’m good at nothing, guess I should just settle”.
But one day I had enough! And I decided I’m going on a mission of success. You read all about it on Succes24x7.com.
Control your thoughts and control your destiny
1. The First Step to Turn Desire into Success is Thought
And so I came to read Napoleon Hill and his great words of advice:
“we are the masters of our fate, the captains of our souls, because we have the power to control our thoughts.”(Hill, Think and Grow Rich, Page 11)
I had actually already come to these ideas from Tony Robbins and others. But reading Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, I can’t help thinking that this is where Tony and those others got a lot of their inspiration.
Anyway, the secret he got from the greatest heroes of success you could name, is that you can become the master of your life if you control your thoughts.
The Power of Thoughts
And I think this is true. If you live your days thinking, ‘I’m broke, I’m poor and nobody likes me’, well it’s pretty certain that you’re not chasing down a fortune and acting like a winner.
So thoughts are what rule your destiny. And so the first step is to control your thoughts.
As Hill argues:
“… before we can accumulate riches in great abundance, we must magnetize our minds with intense desires for riches, that we must become “money conscious” until the desire for money drives us to create definite plans for acquiring it.”(Hill, Think and Grow Rich, Page 11)
The same goes for anything, I believe. If you find difficulty with anything, love, happiness, friendship, family, whatever, it’s because you need to take control of our thoughts.
Once you set your thoughts right, and you have a clear vision of the success you want to achieve, then you have the ability to start to get it.
I know this from personal experience
I used to think rich people were bad, that it was bad to be greedy, and that the system should be changed to give more to the poor. With that thinking I was never driven to chase wealth, quite the opposite, I threw it all away. But once I changed my thinking, to knowing that wealth is good and that having great wealth allows you to do great things in the world, well now I’m starting to collect it.
You can read more about how to make money here, How to Achieve Financial Freedom Through Investing.
But the first step is think rich and grow rich. Think love and grow love. Think success and grow success.
2. The next step to Turn Desire into Success is Belief
The path to success goes beyond thought. Just sitting there and thinking rich will not make it so. It is a vital first step. Most people cannot even think of wealth and their greatness. But the thought alone is not enough. The thought needs to be believed.
As Hill states:
“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.”Hill, Think and Grow Rich, Page 14
So his key to success, is belief.
We humans have amazing creative imaginations. And I’m willing to bet that out there, there are a hundred million great ideas for how to make millions, how to light up the world and how to fix the problems of planet Earth.
But these great ideas often lack belief.
People, maybe even you, have this great ideas and they fill them full of good feelings, but then they let them drop because they don’t believe.
And belief is the only difference.
Elon Musk, Abe Lincoln, M.K.Gandhi, Gates, Jobs and on and on and on, are not special people born with extra limbs, and brains and spirit than the rest of us. No, they just imagined greatness and they believed.
And once you have the thought and you believe, the next thing you need is desire.
You can only get what you want when you become absolutely desirous of it and believe that you can achieve it.
3. The third step to Turn Desire into Success is Definiteness of purpose
“Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.”Hill, Think and Grow Rich, Page 17
So once you have the thought, you have started to believe you can do it, then you need to get the desire to go after it with all you have.
This is the step I’m at.
I want financial freedom and I want to take my life as far as I can so that my family and I can enjoy all the riches of the Earth and we can share it with others. I don’t know why, but one day I just got fed up of watching others living the dream. And so I got the thought and once I got that thought I started to believe, if they can do it so can I. And I started to build up step by step; investing every dollar, investing spare time in self improvement, and writing, writing, writing – because I figured if I have to work that’s the job I want… and so much more.
So here’s Hill’s game plan:
4. The forth step to Turn Desire into Success is to take action:
Take action with the 6 Ways to Turn Desires into success.
1. The first action to turn desire into success is Precision of Purpose – a definite amount of whatever
The first action to turn desire into success, whatever that looks like, is to know exactly what that looks like.
Just sitting back and wishing for more won’t do it. Like people who say they want more money; what do they want more money for? It’s usually they want lots of money so they can throw money away, which is kind of why they have no money.
You need to actually come up with a real amount. You need to know what it looks like. Then it becomes real. Then your mind will start to take it seriously. It will know, you want exactly $10,000,000. Then it will work out the way that guides you towards being the type of person who gets $10,000,000.
But most people just wish they had a bottomless pile of money with no strings attached; no thought, no responsibility, just an endless pile of money to throw around.
The same works with love
People often complain they can’t find love. But they don’t really have a clear definition of what that is. They just wish for it. But once you define exactly what that is, then your mind can start to work out how to get exactly what you want.
I know all this from experience
I used to bitch and moan and wish about the magic pile of money that unbelievably wasn’t mine. While all along I was throwing away a potential fortune on smoking and drinking and experiences.
Once I started to put a real number to my ideas, I knew almost immediately that it was possible, but it meant making huge changes. And so I’m on the path to making those changes. And now those desires are a huge step closer towards the magic number and the life I’m envisioning.
2. Second action is to determine the price you will pay
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
We all wish we could have the perfect life, like yesterday. But that’s not how it works. Well not unless you’re getting it from daddy or mommy.
But for most of us, well at least for me, it’s a law like gravity; I can’t be a millionaire without doing the work and paying the price.
So if you want to turn that desire into a reality, you have to work out what you are willing to give.
Now the issue is how much you need to give?
The price all depends on what you want.
But you need to be realistic. Now if you dream of making millions of dollars and retiring early and living financially free, then that’s going to cost a whole lot. We’re not going to get there by simply cutting out that extra cup of Starbucks on the weekend. It’s going to cost saving everything, investing everything, creating multiple streams of income, developing new skills and continually giving more. Well that’s how it seems for me.
And there’s no certainty.
But I know, if I stick to this accounting I have a chance to get the prize. If I am willing to keep paying the price, then maybe I can get the desires I want. But if I give up, then I know, for certain, it’s all over.
What’s the price for your prize? And are you willing to pay for it?
3. The Third Action is to establish a deadline
Along with having a definite, well defined, purpose, it is equally important to establish a set timeline.
If we just have a goal, without establishing a timeline, it never really becomes a mission. Without a deadline it’s too easy to get lost in imagining that we’ll magically make it all happen somehow in the future.
But once we say, ‘I want $1,000,000 dollars at the end of the year’, then we know if we don’t start running right now and start planting seeds and hustling like crazy we’ll never get what we want.
A random, I want a million dollars, well that’s easy, we just keep working and in 30 years we should be close. But then we end up throwing it away to deal with the stress and monotony of working and not getting our desires met.
So every good goal needs a timeline.
So if you are willing to pay the price, how long will it take for your hard work to pay off?
Make the goal real by setting a time and then start running towards it doing as much as you can everyday. That way you have a chance of making your desire a reality.
If you just sit back and hope that one day you get lucky, well I’m certain that won’t get us there.
4. Forth action is to create a definite plan
So, if you want to turn desire into a reality we need to make it a definite, clear and well defined object we can chase after. And then we need to know how much we are willing to pay to get that desire. If we can see it clearly and we can do the extra work that is needed, then we have a chance.
Then we establish a deadline so we make this desire a real mission that we are chasing after and clearly working towards getting within a very real time period.
Up to this point, the how hasn’t been to important. In fact if we worry about how we will get our desires too early, we will probably just freak ourselves out and give up. Also, there will probably take a few odd sidesteps to get the kind of random skills you can put together to do the thing you will finally come to.
Well that’s what I’m finding.
At the beginning, I had no idea what to do, but as I go I’m picking up new skills, even from failed adventures, and I’m getting stronger, and as I go I’m starting to work out things I’ve never done before. And maybe it’s through these things that I will be able to achieve my desires.
Time for a Plan
But as you start to get more into your road, there comes a time where you need to establish a definite plan.
Now maybe others have had more luck than me by simply thinking positively, but I believe you need to have a strategy that has the potential for success.
Floating along without a plan is pointless, and it will only lead to you being sucked into the plans of others. On the other hand, going hell for leather at the wrong strategy will also lead you to nowhere. You need to develop a plan that works for you and has the potential to deliver the results you want in the timeline you have established.
Then you work that plan until you realize it needs correction.
Following a plan that works and chasing down a real object, in a real time period, is a very real formula for potential success.
Again, nothing is guaranteed. The only guarantee is that sitting around wishing, dreaming and complaining and doing nothing, will get you, well nothing.
5. Fifth action to turn desire into success is to write a clear declaration to program your mind
The next step is to make a written record of this very process.
Make it real. Set it in stone. Write it into your subconscious and make it part of your DNA.
Writing it down imprints it not only on paper, but also in your very depths.
You need to make a clear declaration that you will be chasing after X object, and you will give up Y of yourself and your life to get it. You will follow plan XYZ and do what is required and you will receive your desire on XX/YY/20–.
Once you have written it down, it becomes a very definite plan. More than that, it becomes a mission. You have declared it in writing that you are willing to chase down your desire and you expect to change your life.
6. Sixth action to turn desire into success is to program your mind everyday
And finally, you need to read that record every day; wake up with it and go to bed with it.
It needs to become a mantra that drives you everyday.
Because trust me, it gets hard day in, day out, to keep pushing yourself to power up and to keep paying the price. But if you keep reminding yourself of the mission and the payout, and you’ve done it right, then you will keep on going to get the job done.
I believe this is the great secret that Hill talks about.
It’s the belief, or the faith, that the law of contribution will kick in.
The message is, that if you follow this and you never give up, then you will get it.
Too many people get half way there, but they quit. And so many get a quarter of the way and get bashful. And many have the idea and ‘know’ they can’t do it.
But the secret that Hill preaches is that you can do anything, if you follow the plan and believe.
And dreaming it everyday is a great key to keep you pushing on day after day until you get what you desire.
“If the thing you wish to do is right, and you believe in it, go ahead and do it! Put your dream across, and never mind what “they” say if you meet with temporary defeat, for “they”, perhaps, do not know that every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success.”Hill, Think and Grow Rich, Page 20
The secret is to keep going.
When you fail, know it’s not the end, it’s just a pointer in a new direction. It’s like I said earlier, maybe you had to try this thing to get a certain random skill that you can apply to something else.
It’s when you have learned enough skills and have grown strong enough and have the experience you need that you will be prepared for the great opportunity that can turn all your desires into reality.
Again, there’s no guarantee. And I may be doing all this in vain. But I’m feeling inspired and empowered living in this state of possibility, and we will see what the future brings.
