Do you wan’t to be a millionaire?
Of course! Unless you’d rather be a billionaire… but either way, I’m guessing we all want to be filthy rich; free to do whatever we want, go wherever we want, have it all and feel like kings and queens.
However, how many of us actually have that level of wealth?
I know I don’t.
I’m planning on getting there, but for now I’m an average work-a-day Joe, who has to slave away like the rest for a slice of the averagely ok life.
But when I think about it, there’s some important realities that allow us to see things in a whole different light.
Who would give up their legs for a million dollars?
Who would give up their arms for a million dollars?
Would you give up your eyes for millions of dollars?
(I don’t even like thinking about that.)
What about friends? Family? Clean air?
What would you give up to be a millionaire?
How to Live as Rich as a Millionaire
So, when I answer these questions honestly, and some of you may have very different answers, but for me it’s obvious: no matter how much money you have, the most important things are not really effected. If anything the more money you have the more difficult these things become.
Let me explain.
Regardless of the amount of money I have, my body is still the same body and it will work perfectly fine whether I have a million dollars or if I work an average job. Sure being a millionaire might make it easier to find time to workout, and I might have access to better resources, but at the end of the day, my body really doesn’t need a million dollars. And if we consider some of the ridiculous hours and the levels of stress some people put up with for their million dollar dream, then maybe we are healthier being average.
There’s no way I’d trade my friends for a million dollars. Now there may have been a time when I wanted to think that I was more powerful by being independent, but now I know, no man is an island. We all need real friendship and connection with people. Now maybe that will be easier to find with a million dollars, but I’m inclined to think the money will only lead to false friends, distrust and paranoia. But I’m not 100% sure on that, so hopefully one day I get to test it.
I’ve seen enough soap opera TV on the lifestyles of the rich and famous families to know that money don’t buy you love. Also, if you study history you will be made obviously clear that power and wealth doesn’t ensure security at all. It often leads to jealousy, in fighting, splits, arguments over inheritance, and so much worse.
Million Dollar Treasures
So what does the million dollars get you.
- Champaign and caviar
- Top brand clothing
- First class travel
- A Bently and/or Harley
- And freedom
Don’t get me wrong. I want the Harley, the Gibson, the first class travel and most definitely the freedom. But us average Joes aren’t really doing it that bad with a lot less than a million. I don’t eat caviar or drink Champaign, but I can travel around South East Asia and live like a king for a lot less than a million, and my Honda Airblade is not as classy as a Harley, but it still feels pretty cool hooning around on that.
And just cause I have to mention it, I’d take a priceless sunset over a million dollar canvas every single day of the week!
So the reality is we don’t really need a million dollars to feel great and to feel wealthy.
Sure I’m going to chase after it. And sure my opinion may change when I get it. But until then, I’m not going to mope around thinking I’m poor.
So How to feel as wealthy as a Millionaire
1. Millionaire Mindset
Our feelings all come down to our mindset. If we are walking around wishing we had more than we have, then obviously we’re not going to be happy. This is the problem with chasing success, especially in monetary terms. We are dreaming of a wonderful life of wealth and excess, but then we must wake to reality of average. (Most of us.)
However, as Tony Robbins and many others have shown me, if we can control our focus, which is easier said then done, then we can control our feelings.
The trick is to feel gratitude.
Most of us we live way better than the richest kings in history. We eat well, we’re healthy and our homes are safe with modern luxuries like running water and flushing toilets. When we stop taking all thi for granted, then we can start to feel pretty grateful for all the things we do have. Then we feel rich.
Furthermore, most of us don’t live in locked down totalitarian states. We live in wealthy countries that are safe and give us access to amazing opportunities. We can have whatever future we want. That should be an inspiring thought.
Ultimately, and as we said above, money can’t buy the truly good things in life. So, focus on the best things in life, your family, your friends, your health and so on. Be grateful and feel lucky, wealthy and happy.
(I know some people may have serious issues that will prevent this from being so easy. But in general we tend to take a lot for granted. Though feel free to share your stories and perspectives in the comments section.)
2. Millionaire Fitness
As we said, our bodies don’t need millions of dollars to feel good. A healthy and strong body makes you feel good, powerful, attractive and confident. Money can’t buy that. And it doesn’t take that much to get there.
So if you want to feel like a winner, like a millionaire, get into million dollar shape.
Go to the gym, get a trainer, see a specialist or a dietitian, if you can.
Otherwise, start walking. Build up to running. Do push-ups and crunches. Go swimming.
It doesn’t cost a million dollars to get your body into really good shape. And once you do, you will feel healthy, strong, attractive, powerful and more satisfied.
3. Millionaire Emotions
Another area that money can’t buy is emotional wellbeing. In fact, the world of high stakes success chasing can lead to quite the opposite. Stress, anxiety, overwhelm, depression are all common emotions felt by people across the social spectrum.
However, there are ways, free ways, that can help us feel calm, relaxed, enlightened and empowered; many of the feeling I imagine when I think of being free, rich and powerful like a millionaire.
Yoga and meditation.
Yoga is all about relaxing, balancing and opening the body to allow energy to flow. And meditation is all about grounding yourself and centring the sites of energy in the body.
Both yoga and meditation feel wonderful. They help you to feel calm, balanced, enlightened and empowered.
I’m only new to this whole practice, but I find the days I do them I feel a lot less stress and I feel a lot more inspired and empowered.
4. Millionaire Relationships
Finally, for now anyway, the last thing on the list that doesn’t take millions of dollars is relationships. In fact, you can take advantage of the solidarity of poverty – well maybe not really poverty – solidarity of normality.
This is perhaps the one obvious one.
We’ve all heard the stories about the celebrities who find it difficult to foster real relationships. And on the other hand, we also hear about their lack of privacy. The issues with gold-diggers, false friends and protecting wealth, are all issues us regular average Joes don’t have to worry about.
We should be grateful for our advantage in relationships and make the most of it.
Friendship and family aren’t always free, but I know for one they don’t cost a million dollars.
5. What else would you add to the list?
I’d love to hear if you have any things that you would add to the list.
What makes you feel like a millionaire, even if you don’t have a million dollars?
I’m sure we can think of some more.
Maybe helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Let me know what you think?
Live healthy and happy and realise money is just a counting system – you can’t count health, fitness, happiness, emotional power, friendship and love.
Keep striving for success – if you want the millions go for it. But please don’t sacrifice true wealth for counters that will never make you happy.
